You Can't Manipulate God—You Can Trust Him: 1 Samuel 28

When God goes silent, what do you do next?

In this message from 1 Samuel 28, Pastor Tim Carroll walks through one of the strangest and most sobering stories in all of Scripture — Saul’s visit to the medium at Endor — as part of the ongoing series through 1 & 2 Samuel.

Facing a massive Philistine army and receiving no answer from God, Saul makes a desperate and forbidden choice: secretly consulting a medium to summon the dead prophet Samuel. Pastor Tim reveals that Saul’s real problem wasn’t the silence of God, but a heart that preferred God’s gifts over God himself — wanting knowledge and control rather than a living relationship with Yahweh.

In contrast, Jesus faced something far more fearsome than any Philistine army, and rather than trying to manipulate God, he simply trusted and obeyed — delivering us through his perfect dependence on the Father.
