Hello, we are Living Hope!

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

● OUR MISSION

Living Hope is - and aspires to be - a worshiping community of Christ’s disciples: known and knowing, loved and loving, and Spirit-ually equipped to join God on His mission in every area of life.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…

● Our Story

In the summer of 1978, Pastor John Chiou formed our church with approximately ten people. The original worship service was held at Shirlington Presbyterian in Alexandria, VA. Several months later we moved to Munson Hill Presbyterian. In 1984, we joined the Presbyterian Church in America. Through the years we’ve expanded into three groups united as one church: Mandarin-speaking, Cantonese-speaking, and English-speaking (which is Living Hope Ministry). In January 2026, we moved into our new church building in Vienna, and we’re excited to serve the local community in this new chapter. We also look forward to all that life will hold for us as a church family that loves and supports one another.

Timothy Carroll

pastor

“Pastor Tim” began his role as a pastor at Living Hope in May 2016. He is a graduate of Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO with a Master of Divinity degree. He is currently finishing his Master of Theology degree at Erskine Seminary. Tim served as a pastor for seven years at a church in Woodbridge, VA before becoming the pastor in Living Hope. Tim’s desire in ministry is to faithfully and relevantly proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ Sunday by Sunday, to work together with others to make disciples of Jesus, and to see God produce extraordinary results. Tim enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, exercising, and eating (which is why he exercises). Tim is married to Dorothy, and they have two wonderful daughters.
