Membership & Baptism
Membership in God's covenant community is a gift of God's grace. It is formally signed and sealed through the sacrament of baptism. All of those baptized ought to receive all of the various gifts of membership by faith, including the Word of God and the sacrament of Communion in weekly Sunday gathered worship.
The following resources will help you as you pursue baptism and membership in our local church, a member church of the Presbyterian Church in America.
Questions to ask yourself
This set of questions must be answered in the affirmative for one coming to the Church to be baptized, or for one who has been baptized to become a communicant member, or for one who wants to transfer their membership from another church.
Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy?
Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?
Do you now resolve (decide firmly on a course of action) and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of God the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Christ?
Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?
Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to pursue its purity and peace?
Infant baptism questions
The following questions are for a believing parent who brings his/her child for infant baptism.
Do you acknowledge your child’s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?
Do you claim God’s covenant promises in (his) behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for (his) salvation, as you do for your own?
Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before (him/her) a godly example, that you will pray with and for (him/her), that you will teach (him/her) the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God’s appointment, to bring (him/her) up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
